Famous russian model, actress, designer, Milla Jovovich was born Milica Nataša Jovović on December 17, 1975 in Kiev, Ukraine ( at the time Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union). She is the daughter of Bogdan Bogdanovich Jovović, a Montenegrin Serb, and Galina Loginova, a Soviet stage actress of ethnic Russian descent.
In 1981, when Jovovich just was five years old, her family left the Soviet Union for political reasons and moved to London. Shortly there after they moved again to Sacramento, California before finally settling in Los Angeles, California seven months later. Due to the strain of frequent relocation placed on the family Jovovich's parents divorced soon after.
At the age of nine Jovovich began going to modeling auditions, and was quickly signed by Prima modeling agency. At only eleven years old Jovovich was noticed by the photographer Richard Avedon, head of marketing at Revlon. Avedon chose Jovovich to appear with models Alexa Singer and Sandra Zatezalo in Revlon's "Most Unforgettable Women in the World" campaign. More contracts soon followed. To date Milla has been the face of Banana Republic, Christian Dior, Damiani, Donna Karan, Gap, Versace, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Coach, Giorgio Armani, H&M, and Revlon.
As a theatre actress Milla's mother raised her to be a movie star. In 1985, though now a single mother struggling to scrape by, she enrolled Jovovich in the Professional Actors school in California, where Milla finished as "Best Pupil". She began landing minor acting rolls in television and movies and by 1990 got her first starring role in Return to the Blue Lagoon. The role gained her much praise as well as controversy. For her portrayal of Lili, Jovovich was nominated for both 'Best Young Actress Starring in a Motion Picture' in the 1991 Young Artist Awards, and 'Worst New Star' in the 1991 Golden Raspberry Awards. She also was dubbed "the Slavic Brooke Sheilds".
Since then her career has continued on an upward track, she has starred in many films including Chaplin, The Fith Element, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, Zoolander and the Resident Evil series.
Milla currently splits her time between her residences in Los Angeles and New York. She is currently engaged to American film writer and director Paul W. S. Anderson. The two met while working on Resident Evil, which Anderson wrote and directed. On November 3, 2007, Jovovich gave birth to her and Anderson's first child together, a daughter, Ever Gabo J. Anderson. Ever, a male Scottish name, was given to reflect Anderson's Scottish heritage, and the child's middle name, Gabo, was a combination of Jovovich's parent's names - the first two letters of mother's name, Galina, and the first two letters of father's name, Bogdan.
